Dream All American filly at Inglis 2YO Sale

Wednesday, 4 October 2023 | An All American full-sister to Dark Dream has been catalogued for the Inglis Ready2Race Sale in Sydney next Tuesday, October 10.

The 2yo bay filly was foaled at Geisel Park and is being offered by Kimall Park (as agent) for Mary Jane Basson who also bred and raced Dark Dream.  He was a Group 1 winner of the Queensland Derby (2400m) and was Group 1-placed in the Champions & Chater Cup (2400m) in Hong Kong for converted earnings of AUD2.33million to date.

Subsequently returned to Australia, he’s still racing and has been nominated for the $200,000 Port Macquarie Cup (2000m) this Friday which is a qualifying race for the $3million Big Dance (1600m) at Randwick on November 7.

Kimall Park’s Kimberley Clarke is prepping his little sister (pictured) although she’s anything but petite.  “She’s a big, robust filly,” Clarke said.  “Alan Kehoe, who is training Dark Dream, was very impressed how she presented on type when he called in last week.”

Besides Dark Dream, Kehoe has prepared Dreamdeel (Dundeel) to four wins for Basson along the NSW coastal provincial circuit and he also trains Hawkesbury winner Moonlight Grace (Scissor Kick) for Clarke.

The All American 2yo filly has been catalogued as Lot 37 at Riverside Stables.  Basson has boarded her dam Buchanan Girl (Lion Hunter) at Geisel Park for five years and she is due to deliver her final All American foal on October 23.

“I spoke to Mary Jane this week and she believes it’s time to retire the mare,” Geisel Park Stud Manager Conor Dunlop reported on Wednesday.

“She’s in beautiful health but Mary Jane doesn’t want to go to the well once too often.  Buchanan Girl has been a marvellous producer and she has a smashing yearling colt by All American.  The mare will go back to Mary Jane’s property in the Lower Hunter with the yearling colt and her foal after it’s been weaned.”

In other news from the Myalup nursery, Stakes-winning sprinter Aysar (Deep Field) is covering his initial book like an ultimate professional.  And Geisel Park’s All American mare Duchess Of Gossip is preparing for Ascot’s Fillies & Mares Series that commences with the LR Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) on December 2.

Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg has also repatriated Laced Up Heels (Toronado) to Perth following an unplaced spring campaign in Melbourne.  The Dion Luciani-trained mare defeated Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni) in last season’s  LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at Ascot and her connections are adamant she can reproduce that career-high victory back home after the summer carnival.

Long-term plans for Laced Up Heels include the LR Detonator Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on February 24.  Win, lose or draw, she will be a valuable addition to the Geisel Park broodmare band in 2024.
